Step 1 - Modem and Netgear R6250 router connection:

  • Check if your modem is not connected to another router. If so, disconnect it.
  • Connect a power cable between the rear port of the modem and a wall outlet.
  • Turn on the modem.
  • Establish a connection between the WAN or Internet port of the Netgear R6250 router and the Ethernet port of the modem using an Ethernet cable.

Step 2 - Turn on the Netgear router:

  • Want to Netgear router R6250 setup first take a power adapter and plug it into the Netgear router’s rear port.
  • Connect the other end of the power adapter to an electrical outlet.
  • Wait for few minutes and check if the Wi-Fi LED on the router’s front panel is lit.
  • If not, press the Power On/Off button located at the rear side of the router.

Step 3 - Connecting the Netgear R6250 router to a computer:

You can connect the router to your computer in two ways --- wireless and wired.


  • On the home screen of the computer, click the Network icon and choose the SSID of the Netgear router.
  • Type the router’s Wi-Fi password and click Connect.
  • This will connect the computer to the Netgear router’s wireless network.
  • The default SSID and Wi-Fi password of the router can be seen on its label and continue the Netgear router R6250 setup.


Use an Ethernet cable to establish a connection between the LAN port of the router and the Ethernet port of the computer.

Step 4 - Access the web-based setup page of the Netgear R6250 router:

  • Open the default web browser on the connected computer.
  • The Netgear genie screen will open automatically if the setup is for the first time.
  • If the Netgear genie did not open, exit the web browser and reopen it.
  • Type the router’s URL or IP address in the address bar.
  • When prompted, type admin in the User Name field.
  • Enter password in the Password field and click Sign in or Login.
  • Now, you can access the Netgear router R6250 setup page.

Step 5 - Update the router’s Wi-Fi password:

  • Using the default Wi-Fi password is not secure. So, you have to change it.
  • Go to the Wireless Settings tab and change the Wi-Fi password.
  • Make sure to save the altered settings.
  • If needed, you can change the admin password of the Netgear router R6250 setup.
