The Cisco Linksys E1500 router setup supports Automatic Configuration, DHCP, Static IP, Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE), PPTP, Telstra Cable, and L2TP.

Setting it up using the Cisco Connect or Linksys Connect software is very simple if you follow the steps mentioned below.

  • Before starting the setup, verify whether you have a standard Internet connection.
  • Reset your router by having the Reset button pressed for 10 seconds (if you have already connected the router to any wireless device).
  • Connect the Linksys router to the modem using the supplied network cable.
  • Next, connect your computer to the router using a standard Ethernet cable.
  • Once connected, turn on the modem, router, and computer.
  • Insert the Linksys Connect Setup CD into the computer’s CD drive to run the installation wizard.
  • In the AutoPlay window, select the Set up your Linksys router option to begin the setup.
  • If the CD-ROM is not supported, download the Linksys Connect software from the official Linksys site.
  • Open the downloaded file to run the installation wizard.
  • Agree to the EULA and select the relevant checkbox.
  • Click Next and skip the instructions to set up your Linksys router.
  • Wait until the Cisco Linksys E1500 router setup process is complete.
  • Your network name and network key will be automatically generated.
  • To secure your wireless network, change the router’s Wi-Fi name and password on the Linksys Router settings page.
  • Once changed, click the Next button and wait until the internet connection is identified automatically.
  • Click Next and enter your account details if you have subscribed to a DSL connection.
  • Once completed, a confirmation message can be seen on the screen.
  • Alternatively, you can configure the router settings manually.
  • To do so, type in your router’s IP address in the browser’s address bar and press the Enter key.
  • You can now see the router’s login portal.
  • Enter ‘admin’ in the username and password fields to access the router’s administrative interface.
  • Next, click the Cisco Linksys E1500 router Setup menu and go to the Setup tab.
  • On the Basic Setup page, enter the first DNS resolver and fill up the Static DNS fields.
  • Save your settings and try connecting your wireless devices to the network.
